Forgot Your Wii Parental Control PIN? Here Is the Fix Locking yourself out of your Nintendo Wii’s parental controls can be frustrating. Whether you inherited a pre-owned console or simply forgot a password you set years ago, you are not permanently stuck. There is an official, built-in method to reset your PIN without losing any of your saved game data or channels.

Here is exactly how to bypass the restriction and regain full access to your console. Step 1: Access the Parental Control Menu

Turn on your Wii console and navigate to the system settings to trigger the PIN prompt.

Click on the Wii options button (the round Wii icon) in the bottom-left corner of the main menu. Select Wii Settings to open the system configuration menu.

Click the blue arrow on the right to go to the second page of settings.

Select Parental Controls and choose Yes when asked if you want to change them. Step 2: Generate an Inquiry Number

Since you do not know the password, you need to prompt the Wii to give you a specific system code.

When the console asks for your 4-digit PIN, click the I Forgot button at the bottom of the screen.

You will be prompted to answer your secret challenge question. Click I Forgot again.

A screen will appear displaying an Inquiry Number. This is an 8-digit code unique to your console and current session. Keep this screen open; if you turn off the console, the number will change. Step 3: Get Your Master Key

Nintendo uses a dynamic algorithm to generate a temporary “Master Key” based on your Inquiry Number and the date currently set on your Wii. You have two options to get this key: Option A: Use a Free Online Reset Tool (Fastest)

Several safe, community-made web tools mimic Nintendo’s master key generator.

On a computer or smartphone, search for a “Wii Parental Control Reset Tool” (such as mkey.salthax.org).

Double-check that your Wii’s current date matches the actual date. If your Wii clock is wrong, use the date shown on the Wii for the tool. Enter your 8-digit Inquiry Number into the website. Click generate to receive a 5-digit Master Key. Option B: Contact Nintendo Support

If you prefer official channels, you can contact Nintendo Customer Service via their website or phone hotline. Provide the representative with your Inquiry Number, and they will give you the 5-digit Master Key. Note that Nintendo may charge a small fee (usually around $0.50) for identity verification. Step 4: Unlock the Console

Once you have your 5-digit Master Key, you can clear the old restrictions.

Return to your Wii screen and click OK on the Inquiry Number window. Enter the 5-digit Master Key into the prompt. Click OK.

Your parental controls are now completely unlocked. The system will prompt you to choose a new 4-digit PIN and a new secret question. If you do not want parental controls active anymore, simply select “Clean Settings” or delete the restrictions entirely from this menu.
