To install and configure Acrylic DNS Proxy, download the installer from the official Acrylic website, follow the standard installation prompts, point your upstream servers to reliable DNS providers, and set your Windows local network adapter DNS to 127.0.0.1. 1. Download and Install

Download the executable installer package from the official Acrylic website.

Run the installer file and proceed through the Windows installation prompts.

By default, it installs to C:\Program Files (x86)\Acrylic DNS Proxy.

Open the Services app by searching for services.msc in the Windows Start Menu.

Locate Acrylic DNS Proxy to confirm that the service state is currently running. 2. Configure Upstream DNS Servers

Open the Windows Start Menu and select Open Acrylic Configuration from the Acrylic program folder.

Alternatively, navigate to your installation folder and open AcrylicConfiguration.ini using an admin-level text editor.

Locate the section titled [PrimaryServer] and [SecondaryServer].

Replace the default template placeholders with high-speed public DNS addresses, such as Google Public DNS (8.8.8.8) or Cloudflare (1.1.1.1). Save the file and close your editor. 3. Change Your Windows Adapter Settings

Open the Run dialog by pressing Win + R, type ncpa.cpl, and press Enter to open network connections.

Right-click your active connection adapter (Wi-Fi or Ethernet) and choose Properties.

Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click the Properties button. Select Use the following DNS server addresses.

Type 127.0.0.1 in the Preferred DNS server slot to loop network traffic through Acrylic. Click OK to preserve your network configuration choices. 4. Optional: Set Up Wildcard Domains Open the Start Menu and click Open Acrylic Hosts.

Alternatively, directly edit the file AcrylicHosts.txt inside your main installation directory.

Use this file to point specific test domains or wildcards toward your local web server setup.

Add a routing rule at the bottom of the file like 127.0.0.1.local to capture virtual development environments.

Restart the Acrylic DNS Proxy service from your Windows Services menu to apply these new hostname mappings. If you would like, let me know: What is Acrylic?
