The Dahua Picture Overlay feature allows you to place a custom logo or image (such as a company branding or watermarked warning) directly onto your live camera footage. System & Image Requirements
Before configuration, ensure your graphic asset fits Dahua’s strict system parameters:
Format: Must be a standard Windows Bitmap (24-bit .BMP) format.
Size Restriction: Maximum allowable dimension is 128 × 128 pixels.
Limitation: On most Dahua firmware versions, you cannot use custom text overlay and picture overlay simultaneously. Enabling one disables the other. Step-by-Step Configuration Guide Step 1: Log Into the Web Interface
Open your web browser (Internet Explorer mode, Chrome, or Firefox).
Enter your Dahua IP camera’s network IP address (default is usually 192.168.1.108). Input your administrative credentials to log in. Step 2: Navigate to Overlay Settings
The interface pathway varies slightly depending on whether your firmware is running the Web 3.0, 5.0, or newer UI.
For Web 3.0 UI: Click on Setting > Camera > Video > Overlay.
For Web 5.0 / Newer UI: Go to Setting > Camera > Video > OSD Info (On-Screen Display). Step 3: Select Picture Overlay
Locate the sub-tabs at the top or side menu and click on Picture Overlay. Toggle the function to Enable (or turn the switch to On). Step 4: Upload Your Graphic Asset Click the Upload Picture button.
Browse your local computer directory to choose your formatted 128x128 24-bit .bmp file.
Click Open / Upload to push the file to the camera’s internal storage. Step 5: Adjust Positioning and Save
Once uploaded, a yellow boundary box representing your image will overlay the video preview grid.
Click and hold the yellow bounding box with your mouse cursor, then drag it to your preferred corner of the frame.
Click Save (or Apply) at the bottom of the page to commit the changes. Troubleshooting Tips
Image fails to upload: If the web interface presents an error, double-check that your file extension is strictly .bmp and is not saved as a 16-bit or 32-bit image. Use basic image editors like Microsoft Paint to save your canvas explicitly as a “24-bit Bitmap (*.bmp)”.
Image is missing from live view: If you cannot see the logo after clicking save, clear your browser cache or refresh the live preview tab. Ensure you haven’t enabled a conflicting “Text Overlay” feature on the adjacent tab.
If you would like, let me know the exact model number of your Dahua camera or if you are configuring this through a Dahua NVR recorder interface instead of a standalone browser, and I can narrow down the menu directions specifically for your hardware! IP Camera User Manual – DahuaWiki
